My name is Theo Solnik, and I'm an event photographer based in Rome. I've spent nearly thirty years photographing and filming events across Europe, North America, and Latin America, and I work with companies and organisations here in the city.

You work with one experienced photographer, not an agency. I take the brief, I show up, and I shoot the event myself. There's no account manager, no rotating team of freelancers, and no travel costs for events in and around Rome.​​

A cinematographer's approach to event photography

I trained as a cinematographer and director at the German Film and Television Academy Berlin, and I've spent my career shooting documentaries as well as photographing events. That background means I work by observing rather than directing — I stay out of the way and photograph what actually happens, rather than stopping the event to set up shots.

Most of my event photography in Rome is corporate and institutional: conferences and congresses, keynotes, panels, product launches, investor and board meetings, award ceremonies, and gala dinners. Rome hosts a great deal of this — at the Roma Convention Center "La Nuvola" and the Palazzo dei Congressi in EUR, at hotels like the Rome Cavalieri, the St. Regis Rome, the Hotel Eden and the Parco dei Principi, and in historic settings such as Palazzo Brancaccio, Villa Miani, and the terraces and palazzi of the centro storico.

I've photographed a royal state visit as an official photographer, and diplomatic events including a visit by the Grand Duke of Luxembourg, along with international summits, scientific congresses, and corporate events for organisations including Google, Pfizer, Huawei, AWS, and Cisco. That kind of work requires discretion and an understanding of protocol, which is what I bring to any event in Rome.
